Jesus Cleanses the Temple: A Zeal for God’s House

This entry is part 4 of 5 in the series Journey to the Cross: A Lenten Devotional Series
“Take these things away; do not make my Father’s house a house of trade.”
John 2:16

Reflection:

When Jesus cleansed the temple, He demonstrated His zeal for God’s holiness and His desire for true worship. The temple, intended to be a place of prayer and worship, had become a marketplace. Jesus’ actions remind us that our worship must be pure, focused on honoring God rather than seeking personal gain or distraction.

As we reflect on Jesus’ cleansing of the temple, we are invited to examine our hearts. Are there areas of our lives that need purification? In this season of Lent, may we seek to restore the holiness of our worship and our relationship with God.

Prayer:

Lord, cleanse our hearts and make us fit temples for Your Spirit. Help us to worship You in spirit and truth. Amen.
