Reflecting on Growth: A Faith Check-In Before the Year Ends

This entry is part 10 of 10 in the series October 2025 - Faith and Personal Growth

October often feels like a turning point. The year’s final months are approaching, and we naturally begin to look back. What has this year brought? What have we learned? As Christians, it’s also a time to pause for a “faith check-in” — to reflect on how we’ve grown in character, faith, and daily discipleship.

The psalmist prays in Psalm 139:23–24: “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Reflection invites God to shape us afresh and prepares us for the months ahead.

1. Celebrate God’s Faithfulness

Before considering what still needs growth, take time to thank God for what He has already done. Has He answered a prayer? Strengthened you during a hard season? Opened doors in your career? Gratitude changes how we see the year — not as a series of problems, but as a journey where God has been present every step.

2. Notice Areas of Growth

Perhaps you’ve grown in patience through a challenging project, or learned to trust God more deeply during uncertainty. Growth is rarely dramatic; often, it happens in quiet, steady ways. Write down where you can see God has been at work shaping your character.

3. Acknowledge Ongoing Struggles

A faith check-in is not about perfection. It’s about honesty. Maybe you’ve struggled with consistency in prayer, or found it difficult to balance work and rest. Bring these areas before God without shame, knowing His grace is sufficient.

4. Set Intentional Steps Forward

Reflection leads to renewal when it turns into action. What practices could help you grow further — a regular devotional time, joining a small group, or being more intentional about encouraging a colleague? Small, consistent steps matter.

5. Look Ahead with Hope

The year isn’t over yet, and God still has more to do. Philippians 1:6 promises: “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” We can face the rest of the year with confidence, knowing He continues to shape us for His purposes.

Reflection Question

As you look back on this year so far, where have you seen God’s hand at work — and where is He inviting you to grow next?

Prayer for Today

Father, thank You for walking with me through this year. Show me where I’ve grown, and gently reveal where I still need Your grace. Strengthen my faith, guide my steps, and prepare me for the season ahead. Amen.
