The Call to Repentance: Beginning the Journey

This entry is part 1 of 2 in the series Journey to the Cross: A Lenten Devotional Series
“Return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.”
Joel 2:12

Reflection:

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a season of reflection, repentance, and renewal. As we embark on the 40-day journey to the cross, we are invited to examine our hearts, our relationship with God, and our need for redemption. The ashes on our foreheads symbolise our mortality and the weight of sin. Yet, these ashes also carry the promise of transformation—through repentance, we are made new.

Repentance is a moment of sorrow and a call to realign our lives with God’s will. As we look to Jesus’ journey to the cross, we are reminded that repentance isn’t a one-time event but an ongoing process of returning to the Father’s love.

Prayer:

Father, as we begin this Lenten journey, help us to turn away from sin and draw closer to You. Create in us clean hearts and renew the right spirit within us. Amen.
